Nature Therapy

Slow down. Notice. Reconnect.

Return to Wild Nature Therapy brings together forest bathing, sensory nature connection

and creative practices inspired by the natural world.

Sessions offer an opportunity to step away from the pace and demands of everyday life,

spend intentional time outdoors and experience nature in a slower, more attentive way.

There is no pressure to achieve anything or to feel a particular way.

You are simply invited to slow down, follow your senses and see what you notice.

What is Nature Therapy?

I use Nature Therapy as an umbrella term for the different nature-based practices I bring into my work.

At the heart of every session is connection, with the natural environment, with our senses and with ourselves.

Rather than simply walking through a green space, we intentionally slow the pace.

A session may combine two main elements:

Forest Therapy & Nature Connection

Forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, originated in Japan and is a slow, sensory way of spending

time in nature.

It isn't a hike and there is no destination to reach.

Instead, I offer a series of gentle invitations that encourage you to experience your surroundings

through your senses.

You might be invited to notice sound and movement, explore textures, sit quietly beneath

a tree, wander slowly or spend time with something in the landscape that captures your attention.

Everything is invitational.

There is no right or wrong way to experience the session.

Nature-Based Creativity

Creativity offers another way of connecting with the natural world.

Depending on the season and setting, sessions might include working with clay,

leaves, natural pigments, botanical materials, weaving or found objects.

Rather than focusing on producing a perfect finished piece, the emphasis is on the process,

noticing texture, shape, colour and the materials we're working with.

Activities might include:

Botanical clay impressions
Nature weaving
Natural inks and pigments
Leaf and botanical printing
Found-material art
Seasonal nature crafts

No artistic experience is needed.

Sometimes we create something to take home. Sometimes the things we make are temporary and simply become part of the experience.

What happens during a session?

Every Return to Wild session is slightly different.

The season, landscape and people taking part all influence how the experience unfolds.

We might begin by gathering together and taking some time to arrive.

From there, I guide you through gentle sensory invitations and opportunities to explore the environment at a slower pace.

There may be periods of quiet, individual exploration, nature-based creativity and opportunities to gather together and share.

Sessions often finish simply — perhaps sitting together outdoors with a cup of tea.

You are always free to participate in the way that feels comfortable for you.

Why slow down in nature?

Many of us spend large parts of our lives indoors, looking at screens,

processing information and moving quickly from one thing to another.

Nature Therapy deliberately creates a different kind of space.

Research into time spent in natural environments and forest bathing has explored

associations with stress, mood, attention and physiological markers related to relaxation.

But not everything valuable about spending time in nature needs to be measured.

Sometimes it is simply the experience of noticing birdsong, feeling the texture

of bark, working with our hands or realising we've spent ten minutes completely absorbed in something small.

Inner Terra creates space for those moments.

Who are sessions for?

You don't need to be particularly outdoorsy, knowledgeable about nature, artistic or experienced in mindfulness.

Return to Wild Nature Therapy can be adapted for different people, settings and levels of mobility.

I offer:

Public Nature Therapy & Forest Bathing sessions
For individuals wanting to experience guided time in nature.

Community & Wellbeing Programmes
One-off or ongoing sessions for community groups, carers, charities and support organisations.

Health & Support Settings
Gentle nature-based experiences developed in partnership with organisations supporting their communities.

Workplace Wellbeing
Nature-based experiences for teams looking for meaningful time away from the usual working environment.

Where does Nature Therapy happen?

You don't need an ancient forest to connect with nature.

Sessions can take place in woodlands, community gardens and accessible green spaces.

Some of my work takes place at The Wonky Community Garden

in Widnes, where the changing seasons, trees, plants and

growing spaces provide a rich environment for both sensory exploration and creativity.

Other sessions take place in woodland and natural settings across the local area.

Inner Terra is based in Widnes, with sessions available across Halton, Cheshire and the wider North West.

Experience Nature Therapy

You don't need to know anything about nature.

You don't need to be creative.

And you don't need to arrive feeling calm.

Just come as you are.
